The mission of Shawnee Heights U.S.D. #450 is to ensure academic achievement for all students and develop caring, productive and responsible citizens. This will be achieved through:
• Diverse academic opportunities
• Staff committed to continuous instructional improvement
• Student, family and community involvement
• Safe schools
A Brief History of the District
In 1960 legislation passed by the Kansas Legislature governing the size and number of students led the Berryton Richland School District #1 to consolidate with Tecumseh School District #10 to form Shawnee Heights Unified School District #450. In 1962 Shawnee Heights High School opened with 260 students, starting a rich and storied tradition. Throughout the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s the district grew in the number of students and families it serves and became the focal point of the community. Community members have always been loyal supporters of Shawnee Heights Schools, activities, and students. Conversely, the schools and students have a tradition of giving back to the community and serving others. We are keenly aware the strength of the Shawnee Heights Schools is the people of the district and we are standing on the shoulders of those who came before us.
An Invitation to Become Involved
The district and the Board of Education are committed to providing every student with the skills to meet the opportunities of his or her future. We invite you as a patron or parent to become involved as a volunteer or a supporter of local events, programs or teams. Only through an active and healthy partnership with our students, families, and patrons can we prepare each and every student with the skill and determination to pursue their passion successfully after graduation.
