At SHES we strive to provide a safe, secure, and friendly environment for student learning to occur. Our continued motto is Bullying; Not Here, Not Now, Not Ever!
As a foundation for our plan, it is important to know and recognize the difference between “Bullying” and “Conflict” as they are addressed in two separate ways.
“Bullying” is defined as: An attempt by an individual or group of individuals to gain power/control over a target through purposeful acts that causes fear, strong negative emotions, and physical, emotional, or psychological hurt through repeated negative actions with no effort to solve the problem.
Normal “Conflict” is defined as: A situation that happens where students have disagreements which lead to hurt feelings in which both parties want to continue to be friends; that may happen occasionally with an equal balance of power and emotional reaction. It is not to gain power/control over the other student where students feel remorse, responsibility for his/her actions, and an effort is made to solve the problem.
