SHHS Building Cleanup Update

Shawnee Heights USD 450

Dear Shawnee Heights Family,

During the cleanup efforts following the recent water pipe break at our high school, the restoration company tested areas needing demolition for asbestos. This testing confirmed that asbestos was present in some of our flooring and walls. We have hired an abatement company to safely remove these asbestos-positive materials.

The affected areas where asbestos has been identified have been sealed off with plastic so that the affected materials can be safely removed. The abatement company's safety processes will also ensure that there is no threat that asbestos particles will be passed through the air or any HVAC systems. The comprehensive cleanup and abatement process are anticipated to take approximately 2-3 weeks to complete.

Ensuring the safety of our students and staff remains our utmost priority, and we are implementing all necessary precautions throughout this process. You can watch Mr. Hallacy's Superintendent Report presented at Monday's Board meeting for more information about the high school's cleanup efforts.

We appreciate your understanding during this time as we work towards fully restoring the operation of our building.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Tiffanie Kinsch
