Shawnee Heights District NewsSuperintendent Update

Superintendent MeggersDear Shawnee Heights Family,

Now that the 2024–2025 school year has officially come to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you for making this a successful and memorable year at Shawnee Heights!

This year gave us plenty to remember, from the unexpected snow days to celebrating one of our own as a Kansas Teacher of the Year finalist. We have watched students excel in academics, the arts, and athletics. We recently celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2025; our Thunderbirds made us proud.

This year also marked a significant step forward in shaping the future of our district. We've been actively involved in long-term facility planning, holding important conversations with staff, families, and community members. These discussions are helping to shape a vision for the future of our schools, one that supports student learning, safety, and growth for years to come. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to provide feedback; your voices are essential to this process and continue to guide our next steps.

With summer now in full swing, I hope you’re finding time to relax and enjoy time with loved ones. We’re already looking ahead to the next school year, filled with new opportunities and a continued commitment to student success.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our students, staff, and schools. Have a safe and fun-filled summer!

Sincerely,

Sheila Meggers

Facility Study - Community Feedback

Over the past year, our district has been actively planning for the future of our school facilities, and now we want to hear from you.

We've created a video to walk you through what's been done so far, the key challenges we're working to address, and the options we're considering moving forward. Whether you've been part of the conversation from the beginning or this is your first time hearing about it, this video will get you up to speed.

If you have not completed our Facility Study Survey before, please feel free to complete the survey after watching the video

Facility Study Survey

We will keep the survey open until the end of the day on June 29, 2025. Your feedback will help inform our next steps. Thank you for being part of the process!

Our final Spotlight Award of the school year goes to Charles Walther, Social Studies teacher at Shawnee Heights Middle School!

Mr. Walther has been a dedicated educator in our district for 29 years. Over nearly three decades, he's been a steady and respected leader within his building and across the district. He serves as the Social Studies Department Chair, coaches wrestling and football, and has taken on multiple roles with the Shawnee Heights Education Association (SHEA), including serving as lead negotiator for several years.

Families know him as a teacher who keeps them involved and informed, and his colleagues know him as someone who truly cares about his students, his colleagues' success, and the strength of our school community.

Spotlight Awards are presented throughout the year to staff members who go above and beyond. Visit our Spotlight Award page on our website to view past winners and to start nominating for the 2025-26 school year!
